Summary
15 Weeks of Type
15 weeks of type was a semester long project exploring creative typographic forms, with the final results to be posted on Instagram and used for a sample application. Inspiration for this typeface came from an interest in exploring blackletter, its connection with Mexican and Chicanx visual cultures, and an interest in exploring experimental letterform techniques.
Process
Vernacular Inspiration
Rotunda blackletter forms were studied as a starting point to inform the ways that calligraphic pens spread ink, where it gathers, and how different pen angles affect the forms it draws.

Solution
Hyna Display
The letterforms were created within a circle guide by pencil, scanned and vectorized in Adobe Illustrator, then rendered in Adobe Dimensions to give them their final chrome look. This typeface pays homage to the Chicanx community's creative adaptation of blackletter for fashion and culture.
