Hyna Dysplay was developed as part of a 15 weeks of type semester long project exploring creative typographic forms. Inspiration for this typeface came from an interest in exploring blackletter, its connection with Mexican and Chicanx visual cultures, and an interest in exploring experimental letterform techniques.
Rotunda blackletter forms were studied as a starting point to inform the ways that calligraphic pens spread ink, where it gathers, and how different pen angles affect the forms it draws.
The letterforms were created within a circle guide by pencil, scanned and vectorized in Adobe Illustrator, then rendered in Adobe Dimensions to give them their final chrome look.
